Mr. Tonk’s Classroom Procedures

1.     In-class assignments will be passed to the front, then passed to the middle to be placed in the on-time assignment tray.  Homework assignments should be placed in this tray before taking your seat.

2.     If you need a book, a pen or lined writing paper…bring them to class before class begins. Don’t be an annoying distraction by begging for materials from the student next to you.

3.     When you enter the classroomplease move immediately to your seat and work on the bellwork activity until you are redirected elsewhere.  Bellwork will be posted on a Turnitin.com discussion board, unless otherwise noted in class.  When you have finished, turn off the computer and read or write quietly.  Do not communicate with others during bellwork.  Talking during bellwork may result in a loss of credit and the notation TKNG in PowerSchool.

4.     You are tardy when...you are not on the “classroom side” of the door when the bell rings.  There are no exceptions.

5.     When you hear the attention bellplease immediately stop talking, put down anything you are working with, turn off your computer monitor, and turn your face toward me.  This tells me that I have your attention.

6.     If you need to use the bathroomplease leave your ID with me, get a pass and sign out.  If, in my own judgment, this privilege is being abused, you may no longer be allowed to use the bathroom.

7.     If you would like to know what we are doing today or any day this week...please check the large whiteboard calendar before asking me. You may also check MrTonk.com.

8.     Write your name on all assignments.  If you fail to take the effort to write your name, I will fail to take the effort to grade it.  All nameless assignments will be placed in the No Name Binder of Shame.  You may claim your assignment, but you may not turn it in for credit.

9.     If you have a question for me, need help, or need additional suppliesplease raise your hand and silently wait for a response.  If I cannot see you and I am not helping someone else, you may leave your desk and approach me with your question.

10.  If you have an acceptable late assignment according to the syllabus…you must fill out the Late Assignment Explanation in detail and staple it to the front of your assignment.  No credit will be given, otherwise.  Place it in the Late Work tray, found next to the On-Time Assignments tray.

11.  If you finish an activity earlyyou should engage in a language arts-related activity, such as reading or writing.  You may bring your own book or check out one of my own.  Web use must be related to an English class assignment.

12.  If you have a disagreement about a decision I have madeyou are always free to disagree with my decisions and policies.  I will not tolerate an argument over these items in class, however, since class time is for learning.  The best time to talk to me is before or after school, or you may write me a note or an email.

13.  If you wish to check out one of my booksyou must sign the book checkout sheet.  Books will be returned to me by the end of the semester or sooner at my request.

14.  If bellwork is to be collected...please place it in the tray on the corner of the white teacher table.

15.  If you are absent…check MrTonk.com AND talk to another student before clarifying classroom events with me.

16.   I dismiss you from class, not the clock or the bell.
